The Fake CPNS Recruitment Offer
Fraudsters prey on the intense competition for CPNS (civil servant) positions by promising guaranteed placement or shortcuts in exchange for fees or personal data. This walkthrough is a fictional, illustrative example built for training.
The scenario
A candidate who has applied for or is interested in CPNS receives a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be part of the recruitment committee (panitia) of a ministry or agency. The message references the current selection period to seem authentic.
The 'committee member' says the candidate has passed a stage or can be guaranteed a position through an internal quota, provided they act discreetly and quickly. In some versions, a formal-looking letter with a government logo and signature is attached to add weight.
The candidate is asked to pay a 'processing', 'guarantee', or 'placement' fee, and to send scans of their KTP, ijazah (diploma), family card, and sometimes a photo holding their ID. Payment is requested to a personal bank account rather than an official state account.
After payment and document submission, the impostor either disappears or keeps extracting further fees. The genuine CPNS process, run through the official BKN system, has no such shortcuts, so no real appointment ever follows.
Red flags to spot
A promise of guaranteed passing or an internal quota
The CPNS selection is merit-based and computerized. Nobody can guarantee a result or sell a position; any such offer is fraud.
A request for payment to a personal account
Official recruitment never requires a fee, and any legitimate government payment would never go to an individual's private bank account.
Contact and updates only via personal WhatsApp
Official announcements are published on the agency's website and the official SSCASN portal, not delivered privately by an individual claiming to be a committee member.
Pressure to keep the offer secret and act fast
Secrecy and urgency are designed to stop you from verifying with the official channel, because verification would immediately expose the scam.
Bundled request for KTP, ijazah, KK, and a photo with your ID
Collecting these documents together provides everything needed for identity theft and opening accounts in your name.
The lesson
Trust only the official CPNS process. Selection and results are announced through the agency's official website and the SSCASN portal at sscasn.bkn.go.id, never through a personal WhatsApp offer. The process is free of charge, no one can guarantee you a position, and no legitimate step requires payment to a personal account. If someone offers a shortcut, treat it as a scam, verify any claim only through the official portal, and report the attempt to your security team and, where appropriate, the authorities.
These are illustrative examples built for training purposes only, not real messages sent by Claro or any actual organization.
Frequently asked questions
No. The selection is merit-based and automated. Any promise of guaranteed passing or a purchasable quota is fraudulent.
